Sure-Fire Solutions For Bad Breath
by Robert William Locke

A mint company has recently carried out research with a substance from the bark of the magnolia tree. They put this substance into a mint and found that it was very efficient in killing off the bacteria that causes bad breath – so efficient in fact that it killed off 60% of the bacteria. They compared this to a normal mint which was found to kill off only 4%.

Do not worry if you suffer from bad breath! You are not alone as most of the population seem to suffer from this problem and yet it is rarely talked about, rather shoved under the carpet or tongue! It is a major social and psychological problem . Babies, cats and dogs suffer from it too so you are not alone !

How can you tell if you have it ? Most people say you should ask your best friend but it may simply be a matter of asking your dentist or doctor. one suggestion , when you are alone, is to lick your wrist, then wait till it dries for a minute or two and then smell it. You can also scrape the back of the tongue with a plastic spoon (this is where 90% of the bacteria live) and then smell the spoon.

How come that bad breath exists and what causes it ? Basically the bacteria in your mouth release rather smelly material which will coat the mouth lining, teeth and gums. But the major amount will be deposited on the tongue. Cigarette smoking and even passive smokers may have this problem. Spicy foods and fatty foods, and coffee may all create rather unpleasant smells. Garlic and onions are well known in creating social barriers, especially in the short term so you have to plan well ahead ! In these situations, a sprig of parsley, combined with a good brushing and a mouthwash or mint will usually do the trick.

Most people think that mouthwashes are the solution but in fact this is a only a very short term solution and does not address the real cause of the problem. Other people go to the other extreme and become obsessive or manic about their breath and may well have to have counseling. However the real cause in many cases, apart from bad oral hygiene, are medical conditions such as gum disease, dry mouth, bronchitis, sinusitis, diabetes and liver and kidney disease.

Mouthwashes containing essential oils will help to keep the mouth healthy although it is not the real long term solution in many cases. However the major causes of bad breath is simply poor oral hygiene which allows the bacteria to get a hold and causes the bad smell. Other effective mouthwashes are those containing zinc and antibacterial agents such as chloride dioxide. Diet can play a role too in that fresh fruits like apples and citrus fruit can keep the mouth healthy and clean. Plenty of water is a good idea as well as that can prevent a dry mouth.

Nux vomica and Kali phosphoricum are homeopathic remedies which can also be tried. But the best way to treat bad breath is the cause. There may be a problem with bleeding gums and in that case a dentist should be consulted. Sometimes, medication can be a contributory cause and a change may be recommended. At the end of the day most bad breath problems can be treated simply by good oral hygiene and medical care.

So, while we will have to wait a while for magnolia bark mints to solve the problem, in the meantime, we will have to look for quicker solutions. the site below will explain all about bad breath and offer a fast long term solution.
