Just turn on the TV and you’ll see that health and fitness are important topics with just about everyone these days. You can tell by all the health-related magazines, TV and radio programs and Web sites you see everywhere. I think all that health information has become more commonplace because people are trying to stay healthy in our fast-food society and they need good information to do that. That’s probably because as a society our diets aren’t as naturally rich with vitamins and minerals as they used to be. Consuming calories from junk food that taste good but offer no nutrition has resulted in a generally lower standard of health. We’re also not as connected to what is good for our bodies, because along with eating junk food, the trend in recent years has been to move away from physical activity in our jobs. That combination has caused people to look for other methods to stay healthy.
On the surface, people look better and have higher self-esteem if they’re in good shape. But as you dig down into the heart of the matter, you’ll find there are plenty of other reasons to stay in top condition. People who are healthy are far more able to enjoy all that life has to offer and usually live disease-free much longer. Being healthy simply gives them more quality time in their lives. These are great reasons to work on your health. If you need more, however, think about your family and friends. I’ll bet they’d all say they want you to be healthy and fit so you can stick around for as long as possible!
One method people use to stay healthy is to take nutritional supplementation. But are nutritional supplements all they’re cracked up to be? That’s something everyone has to answer for themselves but there have been quite a few studies that suggest there is great value in nutritional supplements. One good example of this are the studies spurred by the experience of World War II English Royal Air Force pilots whose night vision improved when they ingested bilberry. Researchers reviewed the affect of bilberry~bilberries~extract of bilberry~bilberry extracts~bilberry extract on vision health and found that there’s a strong connection. In fact, recent research studies confirm that bilberries or bilberry supplements improve visual acuity in healthy people, and can also help people who have eye diseases like age-related macular degeneration (AMD), cataracts and glaucoma. Other substances also have been proved to have a positive impact on vision care, like vitamin A and lutein. And these are just a few vision health-related examples. There have been research studies conducted on every substance you can think of. Naturally, I can’t say whether all of them have received as positive research findings as bilberry. It’s important to do your own research, making sure you get the latest research data available. Don’t forget, supplements can be just as risky as medicines, so don’t be cavalier about taking them. But don’t let that stop you either. Just make sure you understand what you’re doing and then do what you feel is best, based on what you discover.
