Can Tinnitus Be Treated Effectively At Home?
While only about 5 percent of those who have tinnitus can be helped by traditional medicine, there is still good hope for the rest of the 95 percent of tinnitus cases. Home treatment for tinnitus can be very effective for nearly all of those who have tinnitus.
If you are experiencing unwanted noise, such as ringing or buzzing, for which there is no external source, then you probably have tinnitus. You may be aware of that already. You may already have been to your doctor to have your symptoms checked out. If that is so, it is very likely that you have heard that there is really nothing to help your condition, because only approximately 5 percent of tinnitus cases are treatable by conventional medicine. By itself that does not sound very promising, but good hope exists for the rest of the 95 percent of people who come down with tinnitus. Most tinnitus cases can be treated very effectively at home.
Before I list a few home treatments that are known to help reduce tinnitus symptoms, please let me offer a word of common sense advice. If you have tinnitus symptoms and have not yet been to see your doctor about them, you really should have your symptoms checked out. Tinnitus can be caused by conditions that can indeed be treated conventionally. For instance, high blood pressure can bring on tinnitus, and that can be corrected via dietary adjustments or medication that your doctor can prescribe. Tinnitus can arise from the use of certain medications or combinations of medications as a side effect, in which case your doctor can help by prescribing alternative drugs.
Tinnitus can also be caused by something serious like a tumor, and that is one of the more important reasons for consulting with your physician. Critical cases such as that are very rare, but you want to have them checked out, if only to rule them out. However, when it comes down to it, traditional medical procedure offers little help for the vast majority of tinnitus cases. Still, all of those other cases are not without hope, for there are home treatments that have proven to be effective for reducing or even eliminating tinnitus symptoms.
Loud sound or noise that hurts the hearing sensors is clearly the primary cause of tinnitus. Our modern world is a very noisy place. In the work place, loud machinery can damage our hearing and cause tinnitus. Exposure to the highly amplified music at rock concerts or night clubs is notorious for causing hearing damage and tinnitus. By avoiding loud sounds or wearing ear protection devices such as ear plugs or ear muffs when exposed to loud sound, we can reduce tinnitus symptoms, or at least keep the tinnitus from getting worse.
Following some simple dietary principles can also be beneficial. Certain food products are known to cause or exacerbate tinnitus in many cases. For instance, avoiding sugar, salt and fats, as well as avoiding tea, coffee and caffeinated soft drinks can help reduce tinnitus for many people. Eating nutritious meals with lots of vegetables and fruits can help to improve overall health and lessen tinnitus symptoms. Smoking and drinking alcoholic beverages can also drive up tinnitus levels.
Getting sufficient exercise on a daily basis can relieve tinnitus. Regular exercise improves cardiovascular functioning and elevates the body’s own immune system. Tinnitus often functions as an indicator that the body’s overall health needs an uplift, and regular exercise can help promote that improvement.
Stress is another leading cause of tinnitus. Greater awareness of the stress in one’s daily life is a good first step. Learning to manage stress better, then, can be the next necessary step. Numerous techniques can be put into practice for enhanced relaxation, and that has proven to be a very effective home therapy.
Usually, reducing tinnitus symptoms significantly requires more than one home treatment approach at once. Here I have listed only a few of the most obvious things we can do at home to help find tinnitus relief, and they can be started right away. For a much more comprehensive understanding of home treatment for tinnitus, I recommend Thomas Coleman’s book, Tinnitus Miracle. Coleman provides the most complete resource for natural home treatment for tinnitus that I am aware about. Within the 263 pages of his book, Coleman also presents a detailed plan for implementing home therapies in a manner that leads to significant reduction of symptoms in 2 to 3 weeks, and complete removal of symptoms in as little as 2 or 3 months.
